Interiors Exteriors Carpet One Floor & Home celebrated National Green Select Day
by volunteering at South Asheboro Middle School April 18, 2009. Employees of
Interiors Exteriors Carpet One and their families, students, teachers and parents
gathered to spread mulch in several natural areas around the campus. A wonderful
'sense of community' developed as the group worked together to beautify the
environment.

Casey Carpet One Floor & Home Has Record Turnout for National Green Select Day!

On Saturday May 9, 2009, Casey Carpet One Floor & Home hosted their 2nd Annual National Green Select Day at McDonald Lake Park in Amarillo, TX. Casey Carpet One teamed up with the local Boy Scouts, Big Brothers Big Sisters program, local schools, the Amarillo Parks and Recreation, the Texas Forest Service, and many others to pull of this big event.

The turnout was even better than Casey Carpet One expected. Over 550 volunteers joined in to help plant trees and lay sod at the park. The day’s work paid off with a total over 150 new trees planted and 12,000 sq. ft. of new sod on the ground.

400 volunteers went home with tree seedling to plant in their own yard as well.

Last year Carpet One Builders Choice and Prescott Granite along with Carpet One stores across North America joined forces to make a difference on our natural resources and our environment from coast to coast.

This was one of many initiatives addressing our natural resources and our environment were effectively instituted by Carpet One stores all across our country. Initiatives such as responsible printing and paper use, ecologically purchasing of office supplies, internal energy conservation, recycling all our paper, and water recycling in the fabrication of our granite countertops.

In April of 2008, Carpet One Builders Choice joined Carpet one stores across North America selecting local projects to help improve the environment. Last year Carpet One chose several illegal dump sites in the Prescott National Forest. We collected, loaded and dumped close to 5 tons of appliances, and garbage.

On April 18, 2009 Carpet One Builders Choice for the second year, joined with Prescott national forest to clean up several illegal dump sites. This year again we had a great turn out of employees and their families. We had 24 men women and children from carpet one volunteer their Saturday, and a couple of National Forest employees pitched in to help as well.

This year Prescott National Forest provided a large roll-off dumpster and a trailer on site. The trailer was loaded with all metal for recycling. Having the dumpster on site was a great bonus for us this time, it allowed us to fill all the trucks more than once, because we didn’t have to hall all the trash to another location. This enabled us to clean up even more dump sites, and fill the dumpster and trailer.

This is one hard working bunch of people. I don’t know what motivates them to get this much done so quickly, it is ether the satisfaction of doing something really good and important for our environment, or the idea that we had a big barbeque lunch waiting back at the store when we get done. It’s great to sit around and relax and enjoy a little time together after job well done.

Independent Carpet One Floor & Home Cleans Up Jaycee Park

This year. Indpependent Carpet One Floor & Home cleaned up Jaycee Park in Westland and will have another day of cleaning on May 16th along with the Jaycees.

May 30th is Westland's Relay for Life which is held at this park and the clean-up efforts are huge. This is the largest city park with a mile long walking track. So imagine the possibilities of cleaning this tremendously spacious area.

We only put a dent on the cleanup but bagged over 18 bags of debris and leaves.

Yes there was a little goofing around but it made for a fun time all in all.

Manchester Group Cleans Up Stark Park

On April 18th, CCA Global Employees joined Carpet One Floor & Home stores across North America striving to make an impact in their local communities by participating in the second annual National Green Select Day.

National Green Select Day was started by Carpet One Floor & Home, a division of CCA Global Partners, in an effort across North America to build local community pride while making the environment cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful. This year, CCA’s corporate employees volunteered their time to help the Friends of Stark Park clean up in preparation for General Stark Day on April 27th. Over 20 volunteers raked and cleaned up shrubbery for four hours on Saturday accumulating over 200 bags of leaves, brush, and pine needles.

“We feel that a big part of going green is coming together to make environmentally responsible decisions.” says Howard Brodsky, co-CEO of CCA Global Partners. “We were excited to get out and do our part in helping make Manchester an even better place to live!”

The CCA volunteers were introduced to a brief history of Stark Park by a Friends of Stark Park committee member. The Friends of Stark Park was established in 2004 to develop, revitalize, maintain, and protect the heritage and recreational use of Stark Park as a historic asset of the City of Manchester.

“Thanks to CCA Global for a wonderful day. The Park looks great,” says Manchester Parks Operations Manager, Tom Mattson. “The work they have done at Stark Park, partnering with the Friends of Stark Park and the Parks Recreation and Cemetery Department adds so much to the park itself for others to enjoy daily.”

Advance Carpet One Floor & Home

It's that time of year again, time to put on our Carpet One work gloves and lend a hand to the environment!

Advance Carpet One Floor & Home will be hosting National Green Select Day this year at Faust Park in Chesterfield to clean up invasive honeysuckle and the more volunteers we have to help the better. The event will be held on Saturday April 18th. We welcome anyone who wants to help to join us and "Go Green." Don't hesitate to bring the kids too. There is plenty of work for everyone.

Registration for the event begins at 8:30am on Saturday the 18th. We will wrap up around 1pm with on site lunch being provided. T-shirts and gloves will also be provided, so please join us for a good cause and do your part for the environment!

Bierl Carpet One Floor & Home Plans a Tree Planting Event

We've lined up with a PERFECT little project for our National Green Select Day event.

Swan Lake State Park has purchased some new trees through Alliant Energy’s Operation ReLeaf program and they would LOVE to have some help planting them.

The trees are scheduled to be delivered to the park a couple days before our event. The park ranger will have the spots all marked where they need to be planted and the rest is up to us! They will have a few shovels available for us to use, but if you have one you can bring, it wouldn’t hurt to have some extras.

Jabro Carpet One Floor & Home is Planning Clean-Up at Kiwanis Park

Jabro Carpet One Floor & Home will participate in the second annual Green Select Day on April 18, 2009. They have decided to once again clean Kiwanis Park in Southgate after a huge success last year. In 2008 the Jabros and their friends filled over 100 lawn and leaf bags and truly left the park looking great.

They will meet at Kiwanis Park on the corner of Leroy and Trenton Road at 9AM on April 18. Lunch will be served for our volunteers at noon. Work gloves and bags will be provided. Please bring rakes and leaf blowers if possible.

Builder's Choice Carpet One Floor & Home to Clean Up Prescott Valley

Builder's Choice Carpet One Floor & Home in Prescott Valley, AZ is once again partnering with the Prescott National Forrest to clean up several illegal dump sites on our public lands here in Northern Arizona. Last year's initiative was such an appreciated and worthwhile effort that we decided to do it again this year on an even larger scale.

On April 18, 2009 everyone here at Builder's Choice Carpet One will meet at our store in Prescott Valley at 8:00 a.m. and convoy six to eight flatbed and standard trucks out to the illegal dump sites and clean up and beautify the areas. The Prescott National Forrest will provide roll off dumpsters for us to dispose of all the trash. After we are finished with the clean up effort everyone will gather back at the store for BBQ we are having to thank all of our volunteers help for participating in this very worthwhile cause.

Independent Carpet One Floor & Home is Going Big This Year

This year, Independent Carpet One Floor & Home in Westland, MI is focusing their efforts on a much larger park.

They will be cleaning Jaycee Park where their Annual Relay for Life is also being held on May 30th-31st.

The park is quite large and it is one of the major focal points in the Westland Area.

The Mayor will be joining in again this year.

Casey Carpet One Floor & Home is Planning Early

After a very successful event in 2008, Casey Carpet One Floor & Home didn’t even take a break before starting planning for the 2009 event. Their event will take place on May 2, 2009 at McDonald Lake Park in Amarillo, TX and they plan to plant 150 large trees with over $60,000 in donated funds. They will also be sending all volunteers home with a tree seedling to plan in their own yard. After this event, Amarillo, TX will be 650 trees greener.

It’s not easy being green….or is it?

When it comes to being green, there are plenty of excuses out there for not being green. “It’s too hard.” “I don’t have the time.” “It won’t make a difference anyway.” At Carpet One Floor & Home, we’re getting rid of the excuses and doing what we can. We understand that even small changes can make a big difference. Simply recycling items you use in your household instead of throwing them away can make a big difference and drastically reduce the amount of trash in our landfills. Every community is a little different so stop by your community offices and ask what and where you can recycle. Make recycling your first step to a greener 2009.

Green Tip for Today: Buy color coded containers to sort your recyclables in. This makes it fun and easy for the whole family to recycle.

Green Tip for Today: Is your water heater covered? Jackets for your water heater can save energy and keep your water warmer. They’re inexpensive and easy to install. Rule of thumb, if your water tank is warm to the touch, it needs insulation.

The Planning Continues

Our stores are gathered at our winter convention and we’re all excited about National Green Select Day. Lots of stores already know what projects they will be doing. We’re also gathering names of stores that will be participating so we should have the list updated on www.NationalGreenSelectDay.com soon. It’s hard to think about spring in the middle of winter but we’re planning for tree plantings, park cleanings, and lots of fun.

Green Tip for Today: Got some burnt out light bulbs? Replace them with compact fluorescent light bulbs and forget about ‘em! CFLs last longer and use less energy!

Happy 2009 from Carpet One Floor & Home! We’re starting off this year with green in mind and we begin planning our Second Annual National Green Select Day. It’s not easy deciding what projects to do and where in our communities we can be of the most help. We’re motivated by all the successes from last year’s National Green Select Day and we’re expecting an even bigger turn out this year. Little by little, we will make the Earth a cleaner place to live.

Green Tip for Today: Make a “green” resolution. Think of one thing that you can do to help the environment on a daily basis and commit to changing your habits. Try using a reusable water bottle or coffee cup, recycling instead of trashing, or simply turning off lights when you leave a room.

On April 26, 2008, Modern Home Carpet One Floor & Home in Bracebridge, Ontario combined their National Green Select Day project with the Town of Bracebridge's spring clean up efforts in conjunction with Pitch-In Canada week.

Independent Carpet One Floor & Home Makes Westland, MI a Greener Place to Live

On Saturday April 19th, National Green Select Day, Independent Carpet One Floor & Home worked hard to make Curtis Woods/Kiwanis Park much greener. Cathy Buchanan and her hard working staff worked on cleaning up the along the park’s fences and the railroad tracks, painted picnic tables, and planted 100 spruce saplings which were donated by local furniture company, Art Van. Independent Carpet One Floor & Home also received a generous donation of paint brushes, rollers, and fencing to protect the saplings from the local Tru-Value hardware store.

At noon, Carpet One Floor & Home staff were joined by Mayor Wild who was presented his own National Green Select Day T-shirt, pin, and work gloves. In addition to the improvements Independent Carpet One Floor & Home made on National Green Select day, they have also made a commitment to raise funds to build a play space at the park and they have adopted the park for future renovations and clean-ups. Great job Independent Carpet One Floor & Home.
